Do You Need a Commercial or Residential Borehole?
Commercial Borehole Drilling Services
At Billson Plumbers, we work closely with a variety of important industry roleplayers, offering tailored water borehole drilling services to suit the requirements of plant-, site-, operations- and production managers.
We also assist site engineers and maintenance managers with everything from borehole surveying and -siting, to installation and maintenance. Not to mention residential borehole drilling for property managers and townhouse complex trustees.
If you’re the leader of a forward-thinking enterprise that's looking for reliable alternative water solutions to mitigate the risk of severe municipal water shortages - it’s time to partner with Billson. Whether you require large volumes of water for fabricating, processing, washing, diluting, cooling, or simply for commercial-scale ablution facilities - we’re ready to assist you with whatever you may need.
Reasons to invest in a commercial borehole
High water consumption can lead to heavy penalties and unmanageable water bills. A commercial borehole can help to reduce these expenses and provide peace of mind where access to water resources, in general, are concerned.
Current drought conditions throughout South Africa, particularly in the Eastern Cape, pose a very real risk for the continued operations of many businesses and securing a reliable alternative water source can make all the difference in the long run.
Who can benefit from commercial boreholes?
Enlisting the services of a borehole contractor to access additional water sources on your commercial premises can be a saving grace for industrial factories and/or manufacturers that require water for production purposes, ablutions, and or staff and equipment hygiene.
The same goes for removing impurities, increasing cooling capacity, making cleaning easier, etc. As such, access to borehole resources is ideal for businesses such as semiconductor manufacturers, pulp and paper mills, industries centred on grinding processes, and so much more.
Expected ROI of commercial boreholes?
Many of the manufacturers we have assisted over the years were spending upwards of R50k - R800k on water monthly. In cases like these, the addition of a commercial borehole makes a lot of sense because it can cut this cost dramatically.
E.g. If your average water expense is R100k/month, your ROI (based on an R100 000 borehole) would equate to 11:1 within the first year. Although we can predict the ROI, we can say that for many of our clients the ROI has been well over 10 times its value in the first year alone.
With regular maintenance, most boreholes have a lifespan of 10 years or more, offering even more returns.
Commercial borehole integrations and add-ons
Unlike other single-service borehole companies, we don't simply leave you with a hole in the ground. Billson Plumbers have extensive plumbing expertise and therefore can assist you with a full array of borehole integrations and add-ons to make your system work for you.
These integrations and add-ons include the installation of filtration and water treatment solutions, pump houses, water storage tanks and stands, plus connection to commercial manufacturing plants, agricultural irrigation systems and ablution facilities.
Residential Borehole Drilling Services
Homeowners and property managers tend to agree that a borehole is an amazing asset to have on just about any residential property. Aside from saving you a bundle in terms of municipal bills in the long run, it also increases the value of your home since it offers a potential buyer the peace of mind that comes with access to an off-grid water source. This, along with drought conditions in many parts of the country, particularly in Gqeberha/Port Elizabeth, are some of the main reasons why the demand for residential boreholes has increased rapidly in recent years.
Reasons to invest in a residential borehole
Being able to go off the grid is a major bonus for just about any homeowner or property manager these days. The South African climate is changeable, and rates increases are also par for the course. As such, having access to your own source of water aside is always a fantastic position to be in.
Who can benefit from a residential borehole?
Residential borehole drilling can benefit everyone from single homeowners, to property investors with multiple properties that require garden maintenance, and pool top-ups. Even a single borehole on one property in a portfolio, if generous enough, can be used to ferry water to different locations in times of scarcity or increased use.
Benefits of residential boreholes
Municipal water supply and sewage can be quite expensive, especially if you own more than one property. However, even when you only have one house and yard to take care of you can still benefit from a secure water supply and long lifespan when it comes to a residential borehole. Speak to our team to find out more about this.
Residential borehole integrations and add-ons
At Billson Plumbers, we pride ourselves on being start-to-finish borehole drilling contractors, which means we can help you with everything from surveying, siting and installation, to maintenance and services. We connect and/or integrate your borehole for its intended use so you don't have to shop around for integrations or add-ons from other contractors and complicate the process.

FAQs
Required flow rates vary greatly depending on the application. On the commercial side, we regularly receive requests for 2000 litres per hour and we source and drill boreholes that meet and exceed these requirements. On the residential side, most households don’t require more than 500 litres/hour - even 300 litres per hour is adequate for smaller households.
The old adage is “How long is a piece of string?” - that’s actually pretty close to the reality when it comes to borehole drilling, except in our context it's “how deep must we drill before finding water?” Aside from the depth of the borehole, one needs to factor in the ease of access to the borehole location, pump equipment, water tanks, water filtration/treatment solutions and connections. We understand however that you’re probably looking for a price range, just as an indication of the required investment. So let’s say the borehole drilling on its own typically comes in at around R25k to R85k (depending on the depth) and then one needs to add on the pumps, filters, connections etc. - so approximately R60k to R120k. That said, there are frequent outliers on both sides of these figures, so please reach out to our team and ask for a quote. Once we know the scope of services you require we will provide you with a much clearer estimate.
Our recommendation is to choose a company with a proven track record that offers comprehensive services that include surveying, siting, installation, maintenance, services, as well as integrations and add ons. This way you won't have to juggle separate drilling, pump, electrical and plumbing companies to get your borehole working.
Borehole drilling is messy work, but our team takes great care to clean up after themselves as they go and our site foreman will always be on hand to check that you are happy with the condition of your premises while we work, and before we depart once the work is done.
Yes. At Billson Plumbers, we provide some of the most affordable and cost-effective rates in the business (based on the comprehensive services we provide). More importantly though, because we understand our clients are not just looking for water in a borehole - they need it to be connected to their commercial or residential property - we are not going to quote you for half the job.
This all depends on the location of your premises, as well as the particulars of the water table involved. Most boreholes in Gqeberha are between 30m to 90m, but we can drill as deep as 200m if required.
No, our site foreman will take charge of our team throughout the process, so you are free to get on with your business and/or home life.
